The Lou Williams Foundation was founded in 2005 by Louis Williams. Louis is a native of Georgia. He was drafted in the NBA straight out of high school. After foregoing college to become a professional athlete, he realized the importance of academics and the message a lot of young people were getting about athletics and academics. For some, athletics is their only means to an end. Louis and his mother, Janice, formed the Lou Williams Foundation, Inc. with the hopes of providing assistance to young athletes in pursuing their dreams of higher education.
The foundation has several programs in place to further their mission. All the programs are education and life skills based. This past school year, the foundation presented three scholarships to students in Memphis, Atlanta and Philadelphia. These three cities represents where Louis was born, raised and now lives and works, respectfully. The winners of these scholarships were student athletes who excelled in academics. He will conducts basketball based, life skills camps every summer in Atlanta, Georgia.
